Feilding Star. TUESDAY, MARCH, 24, 1891. Orchard Robbing

Several residents have complained bitterly to up of the prevalence of orchard robbing in this town and district. Tho thefts are not confined to merely abstacting a few upples; but whole trees are stripped and the fruit carried away in sauks. This puts it beyond the pule of mere pilfering out of a spirit of adventure, which is in some degree excusable in youth, and gives natural rise to the suspicion that persons old anough to know better are engaged. [n some instances, where the smaller :>ffenc(3 has been committed, the guilty jnes have been caught red handed, but owing to a mistaken feeling of lelioacy, cuinliued with a wish iiotto

be " unneighborly," the aid of the law haß not been invoked for their punishment. In such cases the parents of the youngsters ought to be gratetui for the. consideration Bhown to them and, in return, make a strong effort to control their cbildreu by keeping in some sort of bounds. As to the " sturdy rogues" who steal wholesale, no merov should be extended to them, because they are mean thieves who are undeserving of the slightest consideration.

Now that the cold weather is coming in and the necessity for fires arising, we think people should have their chimneys cleaned in the legitimate way, and not wait until they are burned out. The latter plan may be all very well with iron roofed houses, where the chimneys are built out side, but where they are within the dwelling it is rather risky, as there are cracks and air holes in all brick work which, by allowing the flames to reach the wood work, may burn down the house as well.
