The Bruce Banquet

I PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 Marton, March 20. The complimentary banquet to Mr R, C.Bruce last nigbt was a splendid success. Though tickets were issued at a guinea about 200 gentlemen and a considerable number of ladies were present* The toast of " The guest of the evening " was proposed by Mr Macarthur* -' Mr Bruce received a perfect ovation on raising to respond and his speech was considered a masterpiece of oratory. Messrs Bruce, Harkness, Wilson. Duthie and Monteith all spoke. Apologises were received from Sir J. Hall and Messrs Rolleston, Scobie McKenzie, Thos. McKenzie, Fergus, J. G. Richardson; Mitchelson, Ormond and a large number of other prominent men. The assemblage was the largest and most representative ever seen in this part of the colony.
