Accidents and Fatalities
(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, March 15. This afternoon Stephen Frederick Stone, aged 17, stepson of a fisherman living near Sumner, went out to shoot with two others in a boat. While getting into his. boat, his gun, an old one, went off, and the charge lodged in his left breast. He is now in the hospital m in a highly dangerous condition. . Oamaru, Marcb 15. A well-known farmer named Wm. Irving was found dead on the road this morning. He was last seen nd*ng home and leading a horse, and it is supposed was pulled out of the saddle by the horse he was leading and thrown to the ground with violence, as his neck had been broken by the fall. Auckland March 14. At the inquest on the girl Baker, a verdict of death from natural cases was re* turned. The jury were satisfied as to the treatment deceased received in Costley's Home, and it also appeared from the evidence that the mother of the girl was satisfied. Gisborne, This Day. A labourer named Frank W. Thompson went to the sea to bathe at 5 last night. At 7 o'clock his clothes were found on the beach, and after search his dead body was also found in the surf. It is supposed ha fainted on entering the water. Invehcargiil, This Day.The police have received information from Milford Sound that a scull wa» found at the water course on top of Cled- . dou Valley. It is beheyed to be that of Quill, one of the Government Survey party who lost his life some weeks ago. No other portion of the body or particle of clothing was found. From where the remains were found to top of the cliff ovor wh*'ch Quill is suppo-el to haye fallen is 2000 feet, almost perpendicular. Death must have been in.-tanlaneous.
