The following is from the Manawatu Standard of the 10th instant : — Captain 'Colenian was a" visitor to Palmerston .yesterday, and in the course of a conversation with the Mayor he expressed his approval of a proposal to hold march past at the Easter Encampment in the Equate. If that is 'assented to, the Mayor suggests that a grand stand or' seats ■could be placed in the Square and used »s a means of raising revenue for the new hospital' at Palmerston. Whether the officers and members' of the several corps ■would like .this is a very open question. Major Stewart Newall has taken command of the Wanganui Taranaki district, and Has fixed his Head-quarters at Wanganui. In the district orders' issued on ihe sth instant appears the following : — In assuming command of the "district the ■officer commanding is very ' desirous of •becoming acquainted with oifi-ers. non■commissioned officers and men, and looks forward with interest to the Easter Encampment at Palmerston North, where he hopes to see every Corps in full strength. ' Members of the Manchester Bifles .are reminded that there will be a parade on Friday next when Major Newall will inspect them.
