The leading Eoman Catholic Prelates of Australia here have held a meeting and issued a manifesto emphatically condemning the proposed campaign of Irish delegates. It was resolved that while deeply sympathising with the Irish cause they could not extend support to either party while the present unhappy condition of affairs remained unsettled. March 13. A heavy storm, with terrific easterly sea, is raging along the coast. Anxiety is felt for the safety of several steamers. The Sydney Morning Herald commenting on. the attitude of New Zealand, says it is useless for that colony to dream of avoiding federation and securing free commercial intercourse with Australia. Federation and .reciprocity must go together. The Herald urges New Zealand to join, and pomCs out it will be a vain hope to suppose the federal tariff will contain any " favored nation" clause. The steamer Alberta, which was wrecked recently, was completely lifted over the rocks by a great sea, and disappeared. Brisbanb, March. 13. The stormy weather is ce?taih to continue. A gale, almost amounting to a cyclone, is blowing between New South Wales and Norfolk Island, and will probably extend as far as Auckland. This Day. At Barcaldine a strong body of Unionists made an unsuccessful attempt to remove a number of free shearers from Manerch station. One Unionist was drowned in crossing the river. A large woolshed on one of the stations has been burned down, which is a clear case of incendiarism. Hobart, .March 13. It is currently rumoured that the Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company is about to sell out or amalgamate with the^ Union Company. The Chairman of Directors arid the. manager proceeded to. New Zealand by the Eotomahana. Perth, March 13. The barque Eaven, from Freemantle to Bunbury, was wrecked ofl Eottnest. The crew were saved.
