Lord Knutsford has. declined to ratify the Newfoundland Convention, and the Colonial Assembly has again urged him to compete it. It has been ascertained that there are only £9000 to the credit of the Evicted Tenants' Fund in the hands of Paris bankers instead of £30,000 as was supposed. Parnell's delegates left Queenstown for America in a storm of hisses. His supporters retaliated, and a riot followed. . . The Americans are said to be unlikely to help either party. A cargo of New Zealand wheat on passage has been sold at 38s 6d. Silver, 3s 9d. , Three months bills, 2£ per cent. The betting on the University boat race is 2 to 1 against Oxford. Australian cruisers sail in April. The man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo afterwards lost his winnings and £15,000 in addition. The Manchester City Council recommends an advance of 2£ millions to compete the ship canal. The Glasgow and Liverpool branches of the Seamen's Union have refused to join the general strike. The trustees of the Seamen's Union are objecting to provide funds for the strike. Mr Wilson, the secretary of the Union, accepts the Federation ticket. March 10. A sensational abduction case is reported from Chtheroe. A returned Australian named James Jackson with the assistance of two friends, forcibly carried away Mrs Jackson while she was leaving a church. Mrs Jackson had been living apart from her husband, refusing all conjugal rights. She was ■ taken to Jackson's house at Blackburn and the residence is now being besieged by her friends. „ . Bebiin, March 9. Professor August has announced a new cure for tuberculosis based on capsicum Madrid, March 9. The commission appointed by the Spanish Government is adverse to Dr Koch's remedy, and the injections have been suspended. Ottawa, March 9. The Canadian Cabinet has appointed Messrs Tupper and Thomson delegates to" visit Washington and discuss reciprocity. Washington, March 9. The United States Government is exercising increased stringency with regard to the influx ot Chinese from Vancouver.
