There was a rumour this afternoon that Sarah Flanagan had confessed,- but on enquiry it was found incorrect. February 2f . The petition to the Governor in favour ot the commutation of the sentence of the women Flanagan, was signed by several leading resident* of Lyttelton to» day. The ground of the petition is that in the opinion of the petitioners the claims of justice would be met and society sufficiently protected if their 6en- " tence were changed to imprisonment for life*.
