' The monthly meeting of the Educatior $oard was commenced on Tuesday 'night Present — Messrs Carson (in ths chair) Sanson. Baker, Yorke, Beckett, Notman Bridge, Fry, and Hurley. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Palmerston. — From' the Chairman 01 the Palmerston Committee asking foi monetary assistance — the Secretary to as certain the. cost of cleaning the new school, and the Executive was - authorised to pay the amount. From Miss Hobbs applying for salary for month of January ; application granted, From W. L. Hurst, offering to lease section 90, Palmerston North ; resolved to grant the application at £5 per year during, pleasure of Board. Stoney Creek.— Application for £ for £ for shelter shed and new fence ; resolved to ask for estimates. The following appointments were considered in Committee : — Mabel Sicely was appointed to a cadetship at Marton. Resolved to send a teacher to Hiwinui on suitable application being received. The resignation of Hannah Roache from Feilding was accepted, and the Inspector and Executive were instructed to take steps to fill the vacancy. The resignation of A. G. Carty, Palmerston, was accepted. Resolved to appoint Mr Barrett (probationer) at Palmerston for the present. The report of Executive was read and adopted, and the following correspondence ■was read and dealt with : — Letter from Mr Ferguson of Birmingham re another school. — Referred to Mr' Fry to report on. From the Mangaone School Committee applying to the Board for increased accommodation. Decided that increased ■accommodation could not be granted, but that the new dual desks promised v should be forwarded at once. From Mr Lethbridge (Chairman of Feilding Committee) stating that he hadreceived information from Mr Hill (Schoolmaster) stating that the house residence at the Feilding School did not have -enough accommodation, as in case of sickness he had to turn his own bedroom into •a sickroom and sleep on a sofa. After discussion, it was moved by Mr Notman, •seconded by Mr Fry, that the Board cannot entertain the application for additions •to the Feilding Residence. A letter was received from the Ashurst School Committee stating that the sum ■of £Z0 had been granted towards the cost of building a shelter shed, and providing blinds for Ashurst School. Agreed to provide £1 for £1 up to amount' of .£7. A deputation from Manaia and •Opunake Roads waited upon the Board in reference to building a new school there, it was decided that a school should be •built there on the central site. A deputation from Mangaone re building school also waited upon the Board, but it was decided to allow the matter to stand for the pesent. Mr A. A. Browne, the Board's Secretary \\ as appointed to act as auditor in tfhe cases where the School Committees had not appointed one. Mr Sanson reported on the Carnarvon School, stating that the shingle roof was badly in want of repair. It was resolved that the roof be covered with corrugated iron. Mr Field wrote stating that the improvements for the site of a school at Pemberton had been satisfactorily carried out. Moved by Mr Beckett, seconded by Mr Fry, and carried, that the Board advertise for an assistant Inspector at tlie - salary of £250 a year, and £15 travelling •expenses. Moved by Mr Carson, seconded by Mr JB iker that the Board tender their deep sympathy with Mrs Mellish of Palmerston .North on the sad death of her husband Mrs Melhsh having been a teacher under ihe Board. The Board then adjourned.
