In an article on the political position the Oamaru Mail says: — New Zealandjhas been suffering not merely from long- continued misrule, but from an absence of confidence as to the future. The present feeling of hopefulness is the dawn of restored confidence in the colony, and we believe that that feeling will lead many members of the House who are counted amongst the Opposition, to give the Ministry a cor dial support in their effort to realise the anticipations of the people. Whether or not all this will conduce to a long lease of power must depend upon Ministers themselves. If they act with care, eschewing anything in the shape of a great heroic poli :y of borrowing and spending, studiously avoiding what can bear the appearance of jobbery, always keeping be fore them the good of the colony, and always striving to make it great and prosperous, no man can place a limit to their tenure of office or the grati tude of the people.
