(PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Inveecjvrgill, February 18. A traction engine, while crossing Menzies ferry Bridge over the Mataura River this evening, broke through and fell into the river. Eober fc ; JDodd was killed, and : Andrew;Sirnpson,vtiie,owner of the engine, severely shaken engine was on its way from Dunedin'j and was crossing a country bridge at the owner's risk. Lee Chong, a w.eH-U|iQwn storekeeper at Queenstovyn, has be6n found dead on the ranges about Skippefl^ He had gone out on a business rounds; and was last seen about the 7th inSkfe^ There is no suspicion of foul .play; tfS%^ WANOAi^i£iJ\ebruary 18. Alfred Neill, aged 27,i80n of Major Neill, was found dead ;iti: his bed at 6.30 this morning at Mr Murray's farm, Westmere. He retired last night in his usual health. Ghetmouth, February 17. At Ahaura to-day Alfred Francis, a»ed 55, a native of Wiltshire, cut his thro.it and otherwise mutilated himself. Medical attendance preveuted his bleediug to death. He was sent to Greynaouth for medical treatment. Auckland, February 18 A child named Skillon, twelve months old, was scalded to death at Huntley by upsetting a basin of boiling water over is body. A resident at the Bay of Islands nam- d Walter Irvine, who has lived there for over 40 years, die! last night rather suddenly. A settler named William Penzer, living ne ir Mongonui, has been drowned through falling into a creek. He was riding across a bridge which waß under water owing to the floods, when his horse walked over the side, there being no hand rails Penzer leaves a wife and four children.
