The Egmont Seat
The G-overnment have won a decided victory by the election of Mr McGuire for Egmont by a majority of seventythree votes over the Opposition candi date, Mr Bruce. That they deserved to win we frankly admit, but at the same time it would have been a fearful disgrace had they been defeated, because they left no stone unturned, nor spared any effort to help Mr Me Guire. The importance they attached to winning is evidenced by the fact that two of the Ministers, the Hon. Mr Seddon and the Hon. Mr McKenzte, anl Mr Hutchison and Mr E. M. Smith, M.S.R.s, took active and prominent parts in the contest, and fought well on the side of their man. When Parliament meets next session vee txpett ihat one of the fi s qu )s---tions on the Order Paper will be : " Who pays the piper " for the Egmont Election ?
