THE LATE HEAVY EAINFALL.
TO THE EDITOH OF THE STAR. Sir, —The rainfall registered for the 24 hours- ending 9.30 this morning was 3£ inches, being the greatest fall during any 24 hours since I commenced my register in July 1882, and far exceeding any fall during the month of February since the 22nd of that month in 1883, when I registered 3.06 inches, and in which year the total rainfall for February reached the unprecedented amount of 9.35 inches, exceeding by upwards of 6 inches any previous or subsequent fall dnr ng the usually dry month of February. Even on.the occasion of the great floo 1. so disastrous to theFeilc ing bridges, which occurred on the 12th October, 1887, the rainfall registered on the 10th 11th of that month was 3.93 inches only.—l am, &c, .
