Volunteer Items
The proposal to hold a Volunteer Encampment at PalmerstOD, although rather a .'surprise " from the shortness of the notice, has been well received in Wellington. Unfortunately, numbers of the men haye already made other arraugemenfcs to spend their Easter, holidays, especially on -this- coast. The Manchester Rifles have been invited to attend, and the names of the officers and men who are likely to avail themselves of the invitation ■will be taken on the parade to be held on Priday the 20tfr instant. We are pleased to note 'that' Lieut.-Cbl. Stapp will be in command of the encampment. The Manawatu Standard says:- We understand that Mr H S. Fitzherbert lias consented to become Captain of the Palmerston North .Rifles the position having 'been vacated by Mr J. Carroll re' cently.
