Stormy weather has been experienced along t) c "''Northern coas^, respiting; in the wreck of two luggers in- Torres Strait, and the drowning of five persons. W'KLMNGTOw, This Day. A seaman named David Davis, belonging to the steamer Duke of Sutherland was drowned off the railway wharf at midnight. Deceased and another seaman | I named Salve Arrowsmith, were proceeding on board, but when ,the gangway was reached the former refused, saying he was going up town for more drink. A struggle took place, resulting in both men going overboard. The accident was observed and a life bitoy was thrown," 1 which was caught by Arrowsmith, but Davis could not be found. The body was recovered at two this morning. Deceased was a native of-Swanssa, and was 32 years of age. He has no friends in the colony. Invehcaugiil, This Day. Josiah C. Jo c-, J.P., flourmiller at Opbir.'was accidentally shot yesterday. In tl;e morning he left 'the house with a double-bar c led gun, and dogs, to shoit rabbits m a paddock a mile from his residence. The dogs returned without him. On search being mado, he was found 1} ing dead alongside a fence with a gunshot wound in the temple, the gun lying three feet away. One ba ml was dis* charged, and the circumstances point to the probability that he was shot when crossing the feme_
