Concert at Birmingham

+^ — A most successful concert, promoted hy Mrs Levett, in order to provide for painting the Kiwitea Church, was held at Birmingham Town Hall on Saturday last. There was a large attendance and the orderly behaviour and enthusiasm of the audience showed that Birmingham folks appreciate good music, even when of a high class character. The great attraction of the evening was of course Miss Fisher, of Wellington,- who had kindly consented to sing "The Toilers" and " She wore a Wreath of Roses." We need scarcely say that this talented young lady received quite an ovation, and in response to an enthusiastic encore sang " Ora pro Nobis," which fairly took the • house by storm. Mr 3 Levett sang "' Douglas" and " I Jove my love," with great taste and feeling, and received welldeserved encores. This is the first time the public have had an opportunity of healing Mrs LeveU'a rich and well trame I voice, and we •tn st the reception she .received .will encourage her to again appaar in public, A violin solo by. Mrs R..Meßeth, with pianoforte accompaniment by Mrs Levett, also proved popidar and had to be repeated. The remaining items of the programme included glees by the choir, a pianoforte duett by the Misses Fry, and solo by Miss H. Moore, also songs- by Mr Templar and Mr A. Johnston, all of which were well received. The tableaux shown at-intervals during the evening were much admired, and reflected credit on the lady who arranged them. , Great credit is also due to Mrs Levett lor J the success of the evening.
