Money Order Office at Fowlers

: • A very numerously signed petition was forwarded yesterday to Mr Macarthur, M.H.E,, by the residents in the Feilding, Palmerston, Pembei'ton, and Apiti Small Farm Blocks, .praying that a Money Order office be opened in connection with the post office at Fowler's (Birmingham). Mr Macarthur has been requested to hand the petition to the Postmaster- General and support it by his influence. The petition sets forth that there is scarcely an acre of land in all the large district lying beyond the Kiwitea but what is taken up on either the deferred payment or perpetual lease system, and as there is no branch bank or money order office, this compels tho tenants of the Crown to travel from 17 to 35 miles to Feilding every six months for the purpose of paying their instalments, a very unfair ; and unnecessary tax on their time and money when the present and future importance of the district is considered. It is also pointed out that a considerable number of the settlers are insured with the Government Life Insuranco Department and it would be a great convenience to them to have an agency nearer at hand. As the petition contains nothing out of the way, or unreasonable, we trust the Government will make no objection to comply therewith.
