ARTESIAN WATER.
'TO TIIK EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sib,— ;Some time since there was a discussion in your columns in reference to Artesian Wells. Nothing seems to have emanated from it beyond the ■ Borough Council passing a -resolution offering a bonus for the first one who obtained Artesian Water. The great obstacle then was of getting proper boring gear ; now that that obstacle has been overcome, I think some action should be taken to prove whether Artesian water exists here or not. Anyone visiting Christchurch or ; Blenheim must have been struck by the great advantages of a constant supply of pura water, and I don't think any arguments need to be adduced to prove what a blessing it would be to this town and district. The Government, lam informed, have a drill and all the appliances for_ boring to a depth of three hundred feet, which they are willing to lend for one pound a week rent, with a guarantee of : twenty pounds for the safe custody, and I believe the opinion of the Government Geologist could be obtained, free of charge, if requested from the proper source., I hope His Worship the Mayor and Borough Councillors will favorably entertain the matter and bring it to a successful issue, or increase the bonns so that a private company would be induced to test it. — I am, disc., William Carthew.
