I)r K"cU cute has ' beei^ proved efficacious, not only in tfce^early but also in the . udvunced stages' of tuberculosis, whether of the lung or other | parts.' Its oflect, however, of course depends on the patienc being strong enough^ to bear the treatment, which 18 by' no, means a simple affair. It inTati&bly raises the temperature to forty or fifty one degrees centigrade, and is not unattended with danger in any cases. The total number of patients uuder treatment is more than one hundred. doctor's believe that Dr Koch's discovery contains certain chemical assimilation products of the tubercle, on some „ pther bacillus, which contain poisono.us ingredients and are called , toxalbuinine. It is liquid, and is injected subcutaueously with the Pravaz Byringe, jand thus introduced into the veins.. jFor tuberculosis of the luugs theinjecuon is made in the buck ; for tuberculosis of other organs as near the'diaeused part as is possible., With regard|fo *the arangements for giviug practical effect to Dr' Koch's discovery, it is safe, to say that the preliminarjCinooiilatory work is already divided .as . follows :— Dr Koch will take 'charge of twelve army, hospital I trar^sitoVbe erected iv the garden of Charite*' Hospital. Professor Berg-mann-will take the surgical consumptive cases. at- the clinical [hospital in the I Zeigelstrasse. Dr Cornet, the lung! i physician, has removed to Berlin. The Kochs, it appears, have hitherto livedjso" quietly '.that even 1 at Berlin Hobpdycknows 'anything :about them, and the .question -,is now being asked i; evetywh, ere, 'Who are: the Kochs ? Where and how do the live ?' 7 &c. -But.Ji_the_ K<»chß" are just as determined to gO'OU with their -retired^ life as the public ,is to drag, them out of it. f'D'r^ Koch's patients,, of whom, however, he attends . only a Yer c jr__limited number, are mostly members of the, highest _ Germaa and all of them are, sworn ~to secrecy as to the Professor's treatment. .
