A Fool and His Money
A DISSIPATED YOUTH. Auckland, January: 16During the . hearing . of a case at the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day some extraordinary evidence was given as to the dissipation of a young man named A. Greenaway, who recently inherited a fortune of about Greenaway was sued by an Indian hawker for a sum of £42 for handkerchiefs, which it was claime J he had 1 oight, and had given to. women at houses of iow repute." The defence was that on the. day in question he_ was so drunk that he was unable to make the purchase. The defendant's solicitor said that within the last two years-de-fendant came into a large fortune, and since that time he had been drinking and throwing money away most recklessly. Latterly he had been even worse than usual. He was unable to attend the Court that morning owing to his condition. One witness deposed that he .believed that Greenaway ' had spent £5000; in the past three weeks. Judgment was given for the plaintiff.
