Duty on Weasels
We observe the Rabbit Boards in the other parts of the colony continue t G import stoats and weasels from the Old Country, In this "' highly protected colony" it seems to us singular that the gentlemen composing these Boards do not encourage local industry by inviting tenders in the colony for the supply of these animals. We are quite certain that the invitation would be promptly accepted iv Nelson ; while on this side of the Ruabine Ranges some of our settlers would be able to earn a little money by tbat means. There are plenty of stoats and weasels to be seen already when people are not lookiug for them, therefore it is safe to assume if a regularly organised system for their capture were put in practice, more than sufficient would be made available to supply the Rabbit Boards. We trust the new Ministry, which will, of course, he strongly Protectionist, will see to this and protect our local weasels by a heavy duty on the imported ones.
