* Thursda 7 next being New Year's Day the FEiLOiNa Star will not be published. Entries for Messrs Stevens and Gorton's Feilding sale on January Bth 1891 are published to-day. We are informed that Mr Pirani has leased the Palmerston Standard. There will be a meeting of the Jockey Club at Light's Denbigh Hotel to-morrow night. Mr Geo. Fisher, M.H.8., who has been spending a holiday in this district, during the past week, left for Wellington yesterday. Captain Edwin telegraphed at 9 a.m. to<»day : — Warnings for northerly gales nfter from 10 to 20 hours hare been sent to nil places. The Clerk of the Court will attend at the Court House, Feilding, every Monday and Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 5 p.m. Owing to the success of the Feilding Hack Races the Palmerston people are talking about holding a two day's race meeting. The affair should be a success a3 Mr Curreen, of Makino, will provide the music, and the refreshments will be supplied by Mr Gould, the well known caterer and confectioner. Mr Trimble will hold the first auction sale of the last decade of the nineteenth century at the Feilding Auction Mait on Saturday next at two o'clock, when an extraordinary quantity and variety of articles will be brought under the ham mer. We recently had the pleasure of inspecting some beautiful specimens of the Japan Iris in the gardens of Mr Samuel Goodbehere. The plants appeared to be thoroughly acclimatised, they had grown well and a number of them were in bloom, the flowers being exceedingly beautiful. The shading and tinting of the colours in some of the specimens were superb. The collection is one well worthy the inspection of all irho take an interest in floriculture. Last night the members of the Manchoster Rifles met to discuss the adviseableness of forming the corps into a Rifle Club. Captain Pleasants, Lieuts. Kirton and Goslinc, and a number of non-commissioned officers and men were in attendance. Although nothing definate >vas done, yet it appeared that the feeling was in favour of the change. The meeting adjourned until a futuro date of which notice will be given. Parades for Januarj are published today.
