Wedding Bells
Yesterday there was married at the residence of the parents of the bride, Feilding, Richard James Stuart, second son of ,vi r Charles Stuart, of Pahautanui, near Wellington, to j;iss Emily, second daughter of Mr Henry Rutherford, of Feilding. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. M. Murray, Presbyterian Minister. A very large party of friends and relations of the happy couple were present at the ceremony, and at the wedding breakfast, where the good things of this life were provided in abundance. After the usual complimentary toasts h.-id been duly honored and responded to, the bride and bridegroom were driven down to the Railway Station, where they were met by a large number of lady and gentleman friends, who bestowed on them liberal showers of rice in the most approred fashion. On entering the tra;n for Wellington, the bride had a number of very handsome bridal bouquets thrown to her ; so many indeed that the floor of the railway carriage was literally carpeted with rose leaves. We wish the newlywedded pair all the good that this life can afford, and hope they will live many years to enjoy it. In the evening Mr and Mrs Rutherford entertained a number of friends at their private residence in Manchester street, when everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Later in the day the Revd Mr Murray performed a second marriage ceremony, when r Hugh Burrell was unitdd to Miss Margaret Bartholomew at the residence of Mr John Bartholomew, the father of the bride. At the wedding breakfast at Mr Bartholomew's the relatives of the bride and bridegroom were hospitably entertained.- In the afternoon the happy couple drove away to their new home amid a volley of old shoes and rice, taking with theni the cordial good wishes of everyone. We have pleasure in offering our congratulation's on the happy event.
