— ♦ Monday, Decembeb Ist, 1890. (Before Dr Monckton and Mr W. L. Bailey, J.P.s.) OBSTRUCTING A 'RAILWAY.**' Edward Vitsky and Joseph Marsh were charged on the information of Constable Tuoby, of Feiiding, that they did on the 28th of November last, at Bunny thorpe, obstruct a public road by placing thereon eleven logs of wood, thereby endangering life or limb of passers by. . Both parties pleaded guilty. Constable Tuohy opened the case, and stated what he saw of the obstruction. . Hans Christian deposed to seeing some logs lying on the road as he was riding along; his horse shied at them, but as ifhappened there was no accident, though there might have been; the obstruction was over about 8 chains of the road; sent a letter to the police (produced), com- : plaining, of the obstruction ; the road had never been obstructed like it Before ; the logs were laid in different places; one log was about 2 feet through. There were other witnesses, but their evidence was not called for as the parties pleaded guilty. . : : . The Bench seriously warned the defendants, and pointed oat the' maximum amount of punishment indictable in such cases. As, however, they were satisfied the act was a thoughtless and larrikin one, without any malicious intent, they would impose- the 1 minimum fine of £1 each, with costs and witnesses' expenses, total £4 9s, or one weeks' imprisonment. The defendants preferred to pay the money, and were allowed 48 .hours to do so. , ; Two other cases— one of assault and battery, and the other of malicious injury to property were called on, but there was no appearance of the parties in either case. , - The Court then adjourned.
