The adjourned meeting of the bankrupt estate of Graham, Pitt, and Bennett was held this afternoon, when a tender was accepted for the purchase of the whole stock. The tender was that of Mr McKeiizie, of Balolutha, fche price being £3921, or 10s 6d in the £. A large number of tenders were receiyed from various parts of the Colony, the total of the highest of the others being £3731. An application to grant the debtors maintenance was refused. C'hbistchubch, November 28. Mr Verrall has retired from the con* test for Christchurch City. The second series of wool sales took place to-day. >Six thousand bales were offered. Prices were 30 per cent lower all roun.i than at the corresponding sale of last year. The best demand was for fine bright halfbred wool, while inferior merino showed the most marked decline. Pric-s ranged as follow : — Halfbred, 7£tf to 11 £d ; crossbreds. 6^d to B%A : merino, 6d to 8d ; pieces, 3£d to 6jd ; locks, Id to 3|d. Gbkttown Nobth, November 28. Mr Hart Udy, Se» , died early this moraine at his Greytown residence, after a brief illness caused by inadvertently swallowing a small piece ot rabbit bone at his meal a few days previously. The Greymouth School Committee notify by an advertisement to parents nnd teachers that (he State and Districts High Schools are closed till further notice This action arises out of the course the B ard pursued regarding the heai teacher, Mr Stewart. It is understood that the Committee demanded an enquiry but being unable to receive a satisfactory answer from the Mnister they adopted the course of closing both schools in the hope ot expediting and yett-ng an enquiry.
