Manchester Square

The resolution passed at the meeting of ratepayers last night, called to consider the proposed deviation of the roads through Manchester Square, waa somewhat illogical. The obiection to the work as proposed by the Borough Council was made on tlie grounds that the money could be spent with greater advantage on other more necessary public works, yet the meeting resolved that it was advisable to do the work in another way, that is, by leaving the roads as they are and fencing in the four corner plats. Surely if they cannot afford the expense for one they cannot for the other. Whether the Council will adopt this amendment remains to be seen, but in our opinion they should rejeot it without discussion unless better reasons are advanced for accepting it than we heard last night. In the original plan of the town of Feilding there appears in the centre of Manchester Square a reserve •• Post onV.e," and iv the centre

Of Denbigh Square a reserve marked " R.M. Court," so the Borough Council only proposed to act within their powers by deviating the present roads through Manchester Square.
