Birmingham Notes
(*Btat : O*JR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) >B<wUess» 'restless Birmingham. Two '-~ irfeetihgs' of settlers held on Saturday '" ni«*ht The first, a meeting of those interested in the formation of a racing club. The meeting was fairly well attended. It was resolved that a racing club should be formed, to be entitled the Kiwitea and Birmingham Racing Club. Members subscriptions being fixed at £1 Is per annum. Mr R Mcßeth offered a site for a course, free for five years. The committee thanked Mr Mcßeth for his offer, and decided to accept it if found suitable. A committee was appointed to ■examine the ground to report at next mketing. Sixteen gentlemen enrolled their. names as members of the Club. The meeting then adjourned until Saturorday, 15th November. A meeting, of the Athletic Sports Committee was" then held. It was decided that an Association should be formed, to be called the Kiwitea and Birmingham Athletic Association, the qualification fee beipg fixed at 10s 6d per annum. The chairman was instructed to write . to the Cheltenham Association Committee with a view 1p amalgamating the two, and try to arrange to have the annual meeting at some convenient place. _ Birmingham is certainly making a splash. There is every liklihood of both the ventures mentioned being successful ; but it will never do to leave all the work for two or tHree members of the Committee to do, for that means failure from the start. . Political feeling here is somewhat quiet, but " still waters run deep." Mr Macarthur.is to address the electors in the Birmingham Hall on Thursday, t : ie 27th November, Ido not think Mr Arkwright has announced the date of his meeting here. No doubt both candidates will have full meetings.
