The Waddington Benefit
The attendance at the Assembly Xlooms ' On iast Thursday night was very moderate and those who were present were not " ' too well satisfied with the bill of fare. The piece which most of them went to see was not played at all, and the explanation given was, to say the least of it, insufficient. However, the stage management had to do the best they could Tvith the material at their disposal, and ■the amusing farce of " Slocum's Dorg " was substituted for " The Steeplechase," and created abundance of hearty laughter. The farce which preceded it, "Urgent Affairs," did not go quite so well, "and the resonant voice of the prompter spoiled the effect in some of the most lively parts of the dialogue. The followiing ladie3 and gentlemen sar.g during the evening— Mrs Prior, the Misses Bray, Fraser and Bellve, Messrs Keen and Xiovejoy. Mrs Duncan, . Miss Roe, ...- Miss J. Fraser, Miss Bellve, and Mr Ironmonger played the pianoforte accompaniments; .We regret that pressure on our space precludes an individual : notice for each'" performance. The Feilding "- { Brass Band mustered in force, and played -^i couple' of pieces.. There were far too .-many.p erformers oil. the stage altogether -i.- an&Jßne volume iof sound produced was .so -^ cverpowering that pleasurable sensations V 'were .4. impossible.
