So far as is known here, only one death has occurred among the Grenadier Guards at Bermuda, and five are ill. It is reported here that Portuguese gunboats are forming a line across the mouth of the Zambesi river, and passively resist the entrance of British gunboats. The British Consul-General in New York emphatically denies the statements of Mr M. Dayitt that he supplied James McDermott, the American Fenian, with funds to organise dynamite plots in Canada, &c, or that he in any way intrigued with McDermott. Mr Davitt's contention was that McDermott had been engaged to organise the plot, and afterwards hand over his dupes to the British police. There is an impression in National League circles that the action of Messrs O'Brien and Dillon in failing to put in an appearance at the Tipperary Court was a tactical mistake, but the League will probably pay the amount of the bail which was estreated. The Government has agreed to advance the Midland Great Western Railway Company (Ireland) the sum of £400,000 for the purpose of constructing railway b'nes into the districts which are most affected by the potato blight. Fifty thousand people, from all parts of the United Kingdom, viewed the body of Mrs Booth, of the Salvation Army. The negotiations between Italy and England with reference to the delimitation of Eastern Soudan have failed, England refusing Italy the permanent occupation of Kassala. October 11. Bcda Pssth, October 12. The Pesther Lloyd states that a doctor named Hursch threw a bomb at the Czar while hunting, but only succeeded in wounding General Werder. Hursch was immediately arrested. President Carnot has sanctioned the release of a number of prisoners who were taken into custody during the strikes which occurred some months back. Berlin, October 11.
