Adelaide wheat is at 37s 6d, but the market is flat ; Victorian do, 375, business restricted ; New Zealand longberried do, 36s 6d, market also flat. Sugar German beet, 12s 6d, firm ; Java do, 15s nominal. No 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 53s 6d. New Zealand cheese ranges from 36s to 48s. The. rate of exchange to Australia has been raised one half per cent. Leather, best sides, B£-d to 9d. October 5. Colonial oats, common quality, command an average price of 22s 3d. The quantity of wool catalogued up to date is 195,400 bales, of which 185,800 have been disposed of.. The sales ore proceeding v/iih. a disminished attendance. Biddings are less eager, and prices have a drooping tendency. The decline is chiefly in inferior and faulty merinos.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cable advice from their London office, dated the 3rd inst. : — Tallow is dull of sale, and declined 6d per cwt since last report. Frozen Meat. — There is a rather better demaud. Beef, forequarters, is worth 2f d per lb, and hindquarters, 3d. Other quotations unchanged. New Zealand Hemp. — Market easier. There is less inquiry. Medium is worth £19 10s per ton. Quotations are nominal.
