Manchester Road Board
•The ordinary meeting of the above was held on Saturday afternoon last. Pa?esPurkiss (in the chair), D. 3)ownes, and W, Gr. Pearce. The minutes of the previews meeting 'Were read and confirmed. (Mr Lethbridge here took his seat at the table as Chairman.) . COSEESPOKDENCE. From F. L. Behrent, asking permission to erect a gate on road between section 97 and 95; also asking the Board to put in a culvert in Sherwill street. From A. Hass, asking his name to be Altered to 0. Churcher. From B. N. Lane, asking the name to be altered in .the rate book to 0. Churcher. From W. and J. Fergusson, asking to .have the name of R. R. Curtis to be entered on the rate roll for section 28, sub. N. From C. Brewer, Ashnrst, applying for permission to erect a verandah in front of his sbop. ' . From D, and R. M. Eeid, drawing the Attention of the Board to the fact that there are a lot of dry trees on the road fronting their property on the Makara .road, and stating as it is their intention to feuce shortly after burning, they would hold the Board responsible for any damage being done by these trees being blown <lown. They concluded by offering to fell ■all trees fronting their section. Proposed by Mr Downes, seconded by .Mr Pearce, That the following names be .placed on the rate book : — B. N. Lane for section 67, E, instead of C. Churcher ; C. Churcher for section 168 instead of A. Hasse ; and R. R. Curtis for section 28, •O, instead of W. and J.. Fergusson. — " Oarried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Downes, That Gr. Brewer's account for bushfelling be paid, and that he be allowed to erect verandah (as applied for in his letter) subject to the approval of *he Engineer.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That F. T. Behrendt be alJowed to erect a gate on roadline near section 97, subject to the usual conditions. -^Carried. . Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Downes, That F. Berendt, Kruger ■and others be informed that this Board will supply the necessary pipes for <sul vert *>n condition that ■ the Halcombe Town .Board make the necessary formation. — ■Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr PurkißS, That tenders be called for the work on Lukasuhewski's road ; tenders to close on the 18th October ; tenders to be dealt with by . the Chairman and ■the .Engineer. — Carried. . Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That the tender of E. Pawison for forming and clearing .the Waituna road be accepted. — Carried. The Engineer reported that the upper •end of the.Taonui road was very badly cut up, and wanted metalling. Thiswascaused by sleepers and timber being carted from -the Harbor Board Block and Manchester 31ock. The Chairman thought it would have to be left over until the wet season had jjassedf* . -Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That D. Downes be treasurer for this meeting, — Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded 2>y Mr Purkiss,. That the Engineer make ia list of roads within the road district can be closed without inconyeni.ence to the public— Carried. The usual monthly accounts were passed dot payment, and the meetiug adjourned.
