The unqualified confidence of each candidate in his ability to win is remarkable, and so far as can be gathered, residents in the electorate are almost evenly divided in opinion upon the very interesting question " Who is going to get in ?" It ia generally recognised that in that electorate there. is to be a great struggle on definite lines of policy. ,
IPSB UNITED PBGSB ASSOCIATION. J i Wellington, October 1. It is estimated that the supplementary roll will contain nearly 2000 names. As the writs are not likely to be issued for another fortnight, there is still plenty of time left for enrolment. It may be as well to explain that until the writs are out any qualified person who is not on the roll can register. At a preliminary meeting of Mr George Fisher's Committee, the members of his Committee presented him with lists signed by, 1463 Wellington electors, who pledged him their votes and influence at the ensuing election. Parliament will be further prorouered till October 4th. In the interval a Gazette will be issued dissolving it and calling the new Parliament together on December 18. ■ DtrNEDiN, September 30. The Hon T. W. Hislop was in town today, and will probably leave for Oamaru in the morning. He returns to Wellington before entering systematically on Ms election campaignThe miners at Shag Point have decided to bring out a candidate for Waitaki in opposition to Mr John MoKenzie. , Auckland, September 3D. At a meeting at Newmarket of the electors of Parnell, called v to form a Political Association for the coming elections, a resolution was passed recom- t mending the immediate repeal of the' property tax and the substitution of a tax of one per cent upon the unimproved values of land. It was also recommended that a Court of Arbitration be instituted to relieve the labour disputes ; that the present system of education be maintained in its essential features ; that the Government issue a uniform series of school books, and that the Government be requested to advertise largely that the waste lands of the Crown can be had on free selection and on perpetual lease.
