The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, SEPT. 23, 1890. An Official Blunder
Thai the m Railway Commisaiopers should have made such a blunder ac is alleged in the following telegram from Napier, is almost bejond belief [ after the pluck and common sense they had lately been exhibiting : — " The railway authorities here informed t the Evening News to-day that in consequence of adverse criticism of their policy, the Commissioners had instructed that no railway advertisements be given in future." When the Unions tried to gag the • press there was a general outcry, although it was perfectly well under- . stood at the time that the perpetrators had, almost unintentionally, made a blunder which would do them infinite harm if persisted in. But that the Railway Commissioners should make a similar mistake, and in* cold blood attempt to gag the press, especially in such a childish fashion, requires confirmation before we give the re- » port our entire credence.
