♦ Oub contemporary the Manawatu Standard of Tuesday last says:— A rumour having got abroad that Mr John Stevens is not likely to contest the Palmerston seat, we are iv a position to give the report an an unqualified denial. Mr »Steveus has definitely made up his mind on the subject, and no matter who comes forward he will be a candidate. The eleciare should therefore decline to pledge their votes in support of any candidate before they know for certain who will be iv the field. Mr Stevens should be in Palmerston within a week or two at the outside, he being on his road to Australia from India." We may say, in this connection, that we are aware of large numbers of the eleotors who are prepared to give Mr Sterens their hearty support iv the coming contest for the Palmerston seat. The good impression made by Mr Stevens when he sat in Parliament before has not been removed.
