Football
Notes, by Free Kick. Tbe defeat of the Manawatu reps by the Taranaki team on Saturday last can he attributed to nothing else but the want of condition Till the last twenty-live minutes of the game the local men had all the best of it, but after that time the superior condition of the visitors told its tale. It was during the last twenty -five minutes that both tries were recorded against Manawatu reps. The only department of the game the visitors showed any superiority over the local team was in their splendid passing. The nine players who represented the Feilding Club in the match I must credit with playing a sterling good game all through. It appears to me the Manawatu Union does not take enough interest in their matches ; they should urge their players on more to train. They should take a lesson from the Wanganui Union in this respect. Unless the Manawatu players go in for active training for the Wanganui match they will have apoor show of winning. The Manawatu team have yet to play matches with Wangauui, Marlborough, and Wellington. As the season will be ended in about five weeks, surely it is time the fixtures for these matches was arranged, and say twenty players chosen to go in for active training. ThftrA ia no nlaver. howeror eruad ha — — , — j — , . . -- _, — may be, can play a match right out to the hitter end unless he ie really fit, and a team should also have plenty of work together. Matches should be arranged every Saturday for the reps.
