Gentlemen, — Your Committee have much pleasure in presenting the balancesheet and annual statement of accounts of the Feilding Jockey Club. It is worthy of note that the Club continues to make rapid progress, the profits for the last year showing a sum of £213 4s 6d against .£207 3s Id, the net profits earned since the inauguration of the Club. The profits for the respectiye meetings were— Hack Meeting, £134 16s 6d ; Easter Meeting, £88 ss. The amount to credit at the Bank of New Zealand on June 30 was £220 7s 7d on current account and .£2OO on fixed deposit ; there is also cash in hand amounting to £8 Bs. There are contingent assets, consisting of members' subscriptions, nominations, &c, the sum of £30, and liabilities including contracts let for improvements, amounting to the sum of .£277 16s 2d. Your Committee have accepted a lease of a new course on Mr Turner's property, and have let contracts, for the levelling, ploughing and sowing the track and for fencing the whole of the course. The amounts of the respective contracts are — for the course and boundary fencing and erection of gates, £155 8s; and for fencing the course, i'llo 15s.' Hugh L. Sherwill, Chairman.
On the motion of Mr Kirton, seconded hy Mr Henry, the report and balance- ■ sheet were adopted. The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year : — President, Mr F. T. Lethbridge ; Vice-President, Mr D. H. Macarthur ; Judge, Mr D. Downes ; Treasurer, Mr E. J. Allen ; Stewards, Messrs Sherwill, Goodbehere, Henry, Morey, Gosling, Walter Bailey and Haybittle; Committee, Messrs Kirton, Wilson, Saxon and W. L. Bailey (in addition to the Stewards) ; Clerk of Scales, Mr W. <z. Haybittle ; Handicapper, Mr J. E. Henry ; Starter, Mr R. Drury ; Timeieeper, Mr H. W. Haybittle; Secretary, Mr W. A. Sandilands ; Clerk of Course, Mr E. Roake. Mr Goodbehere suggested that as there •would not be sufficient funds left after paying existing liabilities in the formation of the new course, that money be raised to erect a substantial grand stand, to cost about £300. The Secretary stated that after the contracts which had been let for work on the new course had been paid there would be a balance in hand of £133 12s sd. It was decided to hold the matter over till a future meeting of the Committee. Mr Morey suggested that the Club should retain the privileges for the first meeting on the new course. After some discussion it was left in the hands of the Committee. Mr Goodbehere considered that an entrance fee should be charged to all new members joining the Club in addition to the regular subscription. Two meetings were now being held, and the inducements would be still greater when the Club held their meetings on the new course. Several members differed with Mr Goodbehere's opinion, thinking that if the Club had an additional entrance fee it would have a detrimental effect on new members joining. Proposed by Mr Goodbehere, seconded by Mr Kirton pro forma, That new members elected after one month from date of this meeting be charged an entrance fee of one guinea. — Negatived. Mr Kirfcon suggested that the Secretary obtain from that Club several copies of the rules and regulations of the WangaDvi .Toekey Club, so that members could purchase them. Messrs J. F. Donnelly and W. Bellve were nominated for election as members of the Club. The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings.
