The Dock Labourers Anniversary

(per united press association.) London, August 17. About a quarter of a million of people were present at the anniversary celebration of the dock labourers in Hyde Park to-day The proceedings were orderly, and occasion was taken to disavow the accusation that ' the British workman was anxious to grasp the money that came from Australia. There were ten platforms, at all of which resolutions were carried in favour of organising all labour, with a legal inaximuui of 48 hours per week, and recording expressions of gratitude to Australia for the help afforded in the hour of need. The later was received with loud acclamations, and when Mr John Burns waved the Australian flag there was tremf ndous enthusiasm. The celebration of the anniversary of the dockers' strike was of a very enthusiastic nature. Mr Burns asserted that the Dock labourers' strike of last year had iucreased the wages of the Londan dockers by a sum of £300,000, and those at other ports in Great Britain had benefited to the ex tent of £700,000. Discussing the whole labour question thoug lout the world, Mr Burns claimed that 700,---000,000 labourers had by their agita tion gained in the aggregate the sura of thirty millions per auinun. Out of 180 strikes, they had be*n only defeated on two occasions.
