The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, 1890. "The Skinflints"
• ♦ We are not at all surprised to learu that the allegaion made by the Wellington papers to the effect that the " kiuflints" in Parliament intended to attack the Government Life Insuran ;c Depar : men t, has excited a consideruble amount of comment among policy holders. It goes without sayiug that indiscreet attacks on this deservedly popular institution even although made by ignorant and timeserving politicians (save the mark !) must iiece:-Barily do it much injury by making evil impressions which the best management in the world will find it difficult to obliterate. We ail know that any misfortune to the institution will be the opportunity of its rivals. It appears to us simply disgraceful that any members of the i ( ouse should, merely to earn the temporary applause of the unreflecting multitude, go to such lengths. The one great c<>nsolaiion policy holders have is, that al though the " bkiuflints " may attempt to discredit the institution, or to cut down the wages of its servants, yet they cannot injure the firm foundatious on which it stands while the laws in connection therewith remain on the Stamte books of tho colony.
