FEILDING v. PALMERSTON. The Feilding " reps " journeyed to Palmerston on Saturday last to add one more win to their long list of victories, putting down their opponents by 5 points to 3. The game was witnessed by about 500 spectators, Feilding being very largely represented. In the first spell the play was decidedly in favor of Feilding, but things were entirely changed in the second term, Palmerston having "Our ßoys" hemmed in their 25's during a greater part of the spell. Palmerston (reds) won the toss, and electing to defend the southern goal, K. Whisker kicked off for Feilding (blacks). After the ball had been returned a scrum took place in the centre of the field, and the reds carrying this managed to take the ball to Feilding 25's. The latter was relieved by Parr punting well down the field, and the Feilding forwards following up well, the reds mulled the return, ending in a scrum being formed almost on their goal line. Palmerston were not to be denied, and their forwards rallying took the leather up the field. Then the play was fast and furious, both sides being conspicuous at intervals by the good play shown. The blacks rushed the ball into Palmerston 25's, and Shannon getting possession of it passed to our crack threeqimrter (Parr), who had no difficulty in getting oyer the line. Joe Robinson took the kick and landed a beautiful goal. On the ball being kicked off Palmerston rushed the ball into the blacks 25's, but Robinson returned it, and the reds' backs again mulling the Feilding forwards prevented the return kick. For offside play on the part of J. Jackson Feilding were awarded a free kick, and the kick being rather an easy one Joe Robinson once more placed a goal. Half time was called shortly after this, the score standing — ! Feilding, 5 ; Palmerston, nil. The second spell opened by a grand rush of the Palmerston forwards, but the blacks took the ball out of their 25's, only to be rushed, after some loose play had been indulged in, back again by the reds into their opponent 25's, and carried the leather over the line, Mowlem touching down, amidst storms of applause from the spectators. The kick at goal proved a failure. The ball being kicked out by Parr, and returned by Jewell, determined rushes by both teams were the order of the day, the play being exceedingly fast. Parr got hold of the ball, and being collared by Oliphant, was struggling to get away, when Palmerston appealed for a free kick. The referee allowed the latter, although many of those present assert that the decision was a wrongful one. Jewell landed a fair goal from the kick. There mainder of the spell was in favor of Palmerston & but for the hard perseverance and the magnificent play on the part of Parr, Dyer, Harmer and Shannon we are almost certain that Feilding's colours would have been lowered by their old opponents. When time was called Feilding was playing a hard defensive game. Feilding, 5 ; Palmerston, 3. It is fair to state that Palmerston played without the assistance of three of their most prominent backs — Newth, Owen and Hume. At a meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Union held on Saturday night, it was decided to play the Taranaki representatives in Feilding on the 18th of August, and to meet the Marlborough team in Palmerston as soon after that date as is convenient to them. The question of visiting Wellington and Wanganui was deferred for consideration till later on in the season. It was resolvod also to oiler the visitors 75 per cent of the gate money. Two practices in view of these representative matches have been arranged between 15 probables and 20 possibles, one for next Saturday in Feilding, and on the following Saturday in Palmerston, Those selected were — Probables: J.
