Annual Sheep Returns

The annual sheep returns of the colonj for the year ended May 31st, 1889, presented to both Houses ot the General Assembly by command of His Excellency the Governor, are now before us, and fox the information of our readers we make the following extracts. The total numbex of sheep, on the above date, was 15,423, 328, showing a total increase of 381,130. For the Bangitikei district the total was 362,019, increase 43,729 ; Oroua 248,140, increase 47,937; Manawatu 157,023, increase 23,527 ; making a total of sheep in the three districts of 767,182, and a total increase of 114,743. Since May, 1889, the number of sheep in this part of the district especially, has been largely addeJ to by importations and natural increase, consequently, although the numbers sent to Wellington for freezing, or the general market, have been considerable, yet the returns for May, 1890, must show an advance of not less than twenty per cent, which will bring the total well up to a million. _„_„__„
