Football

Being an interested member of the Feilding Football Club and an ardent lover of the noble game, I consider that we should not allow the final cup match against our redoubtable opponents — the Falmerston Clvb — to pass (with whom I hope we will have a real friendly and well-contested game) without a small criticism on our noble "reps." The following is the team : — Joe Robinson, full-back : Sure collarer; splendid drop kick ; fair runner, and best place kick in the team. A. L. Parr, three-quarter -back : First rate man ; always dangerous ; good runner, dodger, drop kick, and sure collarer ; one ot the best backs on the coast ; has one failure — very seldom passes. H. B. Dyer, three-quarter-back : A very powerful runner, and good man at fending ; good collarer ; splendid kick with either foot ; very hard to stop when under weigh. J. Robinson, centre three - quarter : Smart kick ; punts well ; hesitates at collaring ; should learn to pass more. H. G. Shannon, half-back : Excellent man in his place ; punts and dodges well; knows how to use his weight and strength; should pass more and follow up his kicks. C. E. Harmer, half-back : Plays very fast and with lots of dash ; excellent dribbler, and is always on the ball ; should learn to punt ; good tackier. S. K. Strachan, half-back : Good man; plays a good game j passes splendidly, and punts smartly ; uses his head to great advantage. A. Gregory, forward : Very fast, and dashing player ; but rather fond of picking up ; follows up well ; good collarer. H. Keiohtly, forward : Good dribbler; good on the line out ; always hard at work, and splendid in the scrums ; the heavy weight of the team. R. H. Whisker (captain), forward : Makes a good captain ; must pack in the scrums better ; most unselfish forward in the team ; rather inclined to give free kicks on the line out ; dribbles very fast in a loose game. C. Nicholson, forward : An honest, and hard working forward ; always there ; good dribbler and hard to stop; grand man in the rushes aud on the line out. J. Matravebs, forward : A very powerful young player ; sure collarer, dribbles well, and good on the line out, but. rather inclined to be selfish. E. F. Iveson, forward : Fast, magnificent at following up ; good knowledge of the game ; dribbles well, and very tricky in his play. R. G. Tennent, forward : About the best dribbler in the team ; fast and good collarer ; rather lacks energy, especially in scrums. M. A. Belfit, forward: Fastest forward in the team ; caunot dribble ; fair cnllarer ; works very hard ;. should study the game more. Critic.
