KIWITEA J.P.S.
TO TBK EDITOR OF THE STAR. Siß,-^Kindly allow me, through the medium of your columns, to refer to the question — unfortunately a somewhat vexed one—of the appointment of Justices of the Peacefor Eiwitea. It is very much to be regretted that the usual course has been deviated from. The matter should have been left altogether in the hands of the representative for the district. Through misapprehension, blunders have been made, and a considerable amount of illfeeling or irritation occasioned. In the interest of the district the matter should be allowed to drop, as these meetings, nominations, and suggestions, first on one side, then on the other, can do no good, and if continued will certainiy militate against the interests of the whole district. Jealousy between different parts of the district has been referred, to, it may exist, but not to any" great .extent. Anyway, I am sure that Birmingham owes no inconsiderable' portion of 'its advancement to the sympathy and energy of a number of residents in. the old Kiwitea Block. I hope the J.P. question will be allowed to diop, and harmony be restored. The appointments no doubt will be made in the usual way.—l am, &c, Thomas A. Bryce. Kiwitea July 28fch, 1890.
