McDonald, stockman, gave a conversation with the accused about Streeter's disappearance. Black told witness he parted with the deceased about two and a half miles from the camp, and that Streeter had been home and kicked up a row with Mrs Streeter, aud cleared out. He said that Streeter had been seen m Mohaka, and had called upon Mrs Street er's relations. He showed witness a photo because witness uttered a disparaging remark about the lady. He would not speak to him for about a month. Witness said a coye euchred Streeter out of a woman. Black replied, "He must have been jealous, and cleared out." Accused said Mrs Streeter was coming into £1509 from people" at Home, and he spoke of buying property, and said he was going to work in town in the future, so as te be near his old woman. Arthur Parkinson, a member of Black's camp, gave evidence as to what took place at the camp on March 30th. Waring went for stores with witness to McDonald's. Streeter and Black started out with the intention of shooting pigeons. Waring and witness were back at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, when Black returned without Streeter. He said he had gone to town, he having given him £3. Witness had good reasons to believe that Black had not £3 after his Visit to town. Black suggested that they should knock, off. work :early in the afternoon, and they did so. Witness and his mate returned'jo .camp, Black saying he. would go into thfr bush and look -s^the trees to be felled. , Next day he founu a spade and an axe on a branch track near where the.bQdy was found. This led them to search, that spot for the body. Black returned the same evening several hours after them. The accused reserved his defence, and at 6 p.m. was committed for trial.
