From settlers on the Taonui road, calling attention to the neglected state of the road from the Manchester boundary to the junction of Finnis' road, and asking the Board to do something as the road. is almost impassable for wheeled traffic. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Williamson, That the amount applied for by the Colonial Treasurer be paid, and ' that the application be made for the Feilding Small Farm thirds be. included in the same.-riCarried. Mr Lucas made some remarks on some •letters •whioh had been published in the ;Feildin6 Stab some time ago, in which ■ .complaint was made of cattle running on the roads at Apiti and other piaces. He thought a Ranger ought to be appointed goiseep the roads clear. Mr Williamson suggested the Board . -should advertise for a man to impound / .cattl«. The Chairman said the Ranger of the Borough of Feilding had offered to do the i -work if he got half the driving and poundAge fees. IT this offer was accepted the Board 1 would reap a profit. Ifr , WilHamson said they would need • pound in every ward. He would object $p«ny of his cattle which got astray being 1 ■ j ,driven twenty miles. ;Mr Lucas suggested that the roadman might be empowered to act. :., Mr Mills said that had been tried elsewhere and had failed. , The Chairman thought a pound might be erected at Cheltenham. There were 'stocky ards attached to the hotel.fwhich , might be utilised, and shelter sheds put ! "ap: ' ■ : ' : ' r : - Mr Reid said 'his Ward was in debt £34 12s 4d, and he reminded the Board that a promise had been made to relieve his Ward out of the rates from the Crown Lands. Mr Williamson suggested, re the pound, that ,the matter be discussed at the next meeting of the Board. Pounds should be established in certain defined localities, ■' jarid one Ranger appointed tor the lot. 11 iwduld 'not be fair for the cottiers unless . something of the kind were done. The Chairman thought Cheltenham .. ' jpould be central enough. The Secretary reported that he hac received no reply from the Commissionei . anent the Cemetery Reserve in the Ongc Block.
