Will You Swear
' c Will you swear,' asked Mr Eymer of a witness in a case in the police court at Sandhurst the other day, * Will you swear* — ' I will,' promptly ■■ -ejaculated the loquacious witness. ' Will you let me finish the sentence ?' remarked Mr Rymer. * I will,' re- 1 plied the witness. • Very well now. Will you swear — ' Aye, that I will rand 20 times too, 1 retorts the impulsive witness. 'I really don't know what to make of this witness your •worship,' says Mr Eymer to the 3>ench, as he looks to them imploringly rta try and restrain the occupant of the witness box. Mr Patterson advised (the witness) to listen to the first and then answer it. • I 'Will,' says Con. • Very well now,' remarks Mr Eymer, with a sigh of relief as if his trouble were ended,' 4 Will you swear'— 4 1 will,' blurts out the irrepressible witness to the evident disgust of Mr Eymer, and the great amusement of the crowd of hangers on in court. 'I'll swear anything you like.' Another rebuke, couched in much stronger terms than the first one, from the bench had the effect of reptraining Con's impetuosity pretty confiiderably, and Mr Eymer was able to complete his question.
