Wanganui Harbour Board

The following among other business was transacted at a meeting of the above Board held at Wanganui on Monday last :— - i Pohangina Township, —Mr v Bray wrote respecting the scheme of the Pohangina township, and forwarded a plan for the approval of the Board.— The Secretary reported that he had on receipt of the plan written to the Surveyor-General, and sent him a traoing of the scheme for approval. The Secretary read a reply from -the Surveyor-General, who wrote respecting the scheme stating that it had some defects in it which, he thought, should be remedied, and that it had also been suggested that perhaps it did not suit the lay of the country as well as it might. He thought it would perhaps be a better plan to have a scheme for a township made after a personal inspection of the ground, which might be done by the Government surveyors, under the direction of the Chief Surveyor, would draw up a scheme and prepare a specification for survey, if this would suit the Board. The Secretary further Btated. that as a matter of fact the ground had been personally inspected and surveyed by Mr Bray. — The Chairman thought the first thing iid do was" to ask" the -urveyor-General is hat the objections were. ' He would, if the Board wished, see the SurveyorGeneral on, the question. — Agreed to. Board Endowments. — The Commissioner of Lands wrote stating that he had been instructed to withdraw all lands from sale on deferred payments, as sections in future can only be sold for cash, and asking the Board to withdraw all nofications of the proposed sales on the 10th, and make proposals for reoffering all lands now open. This -course had been decided upon to avoid any liability of the Government -for thirds payments. * The Chairman had seen the Surveyor-General on the subject, and the latter had told him that all that was necessary was that notice should be given to the people that v thirds" were not payable therefore, if this notification was given at the time of sale, the sale on deferred payments could take place.
