At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the president read an extract from a letter received by his firm (Levin and Co,) from a London correspondent on New Zealand hemp as follows :— " One of the tfnited Kingdom ropemakers has been telling us that he has recently, and for the first time, used some fully fair New Zealand hemp to make twine for an order previously filled with sisal and Manilla. He is very pleased with the result, and indeed tells us (and he is probably the best ropemaker in tbe United Kingdom) that he finds New Zealand hemp has been better than sisal or Manilla." He urged millers to improve the quality of the fibre, so that the industry might become a permanent one. '
