Mr Micaiah Bead, an old and respected resident of Wellington, died at his residence, Adelaide road, on Friday night. The deceased gentleman held the appointment of Governor of the Wellington Gaol for 25 years, and retired on his pension five years ago. Four years ago he met with a nasty buggy accident in Courtenay place, the injuries from, which he never thoroughly recovered. Mr Reid had suffered lately with an affection of the heart, and nine days ago was obliged to take to his bed, aud had gradually grown weaker, passing quietly away at the age of 71, as stated above. He leaves, besides a wife, a family of nine, all grown up, Mrs Walter Armstrong (of Wanganui), Mrs J. P. Lomax (New Plymouth), and Mrs Williamson (Melbourne) are his daughters, The sons are Edward (Rangitikei), Micaiah (Sandou), Frederick and Arthur (Wellington), James E. (Inyercargill), and Alfred (Whareama). —Times.
