The Way the Money Goes
♦ "Mr Barren's return" of the expenditure on Minister's salaries, allowances, &c., the Governor and his establishment, and the departments of ; the Civil Service chargeable against j ordinary revenue, was laid on the table yesterday. According to the return Ministers' salaries, travelling allowances, and residence allowances amounted last year to £7785, as against £7642 in the previous year, both amounts being lower than in any j:ear since 1870. The salary of the -Governor ~ and general expenses .amounteJLto £9428, as against £8837, •the increase 'being due to the expenditure £4025 on Government houses and grounds. The Legislature expenditure amounted to £33,190, which •is a slight decrease on tbe previous ;year ; and the departments were £1,944,800, as against £1,873,524 in Tthe previous year. The total expenditure under all these heads was £1,995,283, as against £1,923,313 in 4889.
