STRAY CATTLE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR Sir, — Would you kindly give space for the following : — I have a farm of land in the district, and am greatly annoyed with stray cattle on the roads. In fact it is almost iinpossimble to travel at night without running into three or four lots of beasts lying in the middle of the road. I am surprised there has not been a serious accident, like the one which happened in Kiwitea a few years ago when a poor fellow was killed almost instantaneously. The trouble does not stop here. These cattle do more harm to the roads than the ordinary traffic, inasmuch as they break down the banks and then, of course, the water tables get blocked when the water, instead of running away, lies on the road to form bogs and mire. Now, if you speak to people they say they are not their cattle. I would propose that the Kiwitea Road Board appoint some person to remove all stray cattle, which would be a great boon to the travelling public. — I am, &c. Justice; Birmingham, July 15, 1890.
