Feilding Borough Council

A special meeting of the Feildin, Borough Council was held on Thursda; night to consider the report of Mr J. T Stewart, C.E., on the Kiwitea strewn, am «o her business. Present — MLethbridgi (Mayer), Crs T. R. Chamberlain, Sandi lands, Goodbehere, W. E, Charnbeiljin S. J. Thompson, and J. C. Thompson. The Mayor said the Public Works Com -mitten had visited the site of the propose*: North street footbridge, and decided on £ plan for a wire suspension bridge, th< same to be erected by the Council by day labor. The plan was submitted to the •Council by the Clerk of Works, Mr Hill -C.E. Proposed by Cr J. C. Thompson, seconded by Cr T. R. Chamberlain, That a ■ suspension footbridge be erected over the -Makino on North road by wages men as recommended by the Public Works Comjm'ttee. — Carried. Cr J. C. Thompson recommended that 33ome of the bush, about half a chain wide -Tie felled in the Duke of Manchester's bush, •on Kimboltonroad. — No action was taken. . The Mayor then produced the report plans of Mr J. T. Stewart, C.E., in connection with the proposed deviation oi the Kimbolton road and bridging the Kiwitea stream above the present cros.sing. The Mayor read the clauses of the Public Works Amendment Act, 1889, re'ierring to local bodies undertaking the -construction of works, and the liability of •other Local Bodies liable to contribute to •the cost of the same. The Mayor said he ■did not think the bodies interested — the .Manchester and Kiwitea Road Districts — vwould be likely to offer any objections. The Council then went into committee. On resuming Cr Goodbehere proposed, and Cr S. J. 'Thompson seconded, That the Mayor be : requested to wait upon Mr Macarthur with a view of ascertaining upon what terms the Colonists Land and Loan Corporation will allow this Council to take portions of sections Nos. 124, 123 and 122 rfor the purpose of making a diversion of Kimtolton road at the Kiwitea stream, and to report to the next meeting of the •Council. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded 9>y Cr S. J. Thompson, That the Mayor, Cib Rutherford and Sandilands be a deputation to wait upon the Kiwitea and Mancchester Road Boards at their next respective meetings and submit Mr Stewart's plans and specifications of the proposed "works at the Kiwitea with a view of ascertaining what measure of assistance such IBoards will be prepared to afford the sCouncil should they decide to carry out Tthe proposed works. — Carried. 'The meeting then adjourned.
